Perth East Township CAO Mike Givens is looking for a process on hiring an insurance broker.

"We would like to engage a local insurance broker to provide direct support to us around appropriate coverage, policies, annual renewals, claims management, issuing RFP, etc. Really an industry expert that we do not have in house.  What I am wondering is if other municipalities have a formal process they utilized to assess and then engage an insurance broker that they would be willing to share."

Please either email Mike directly or respond on our Message Board.

Note--remember to Opt-In to receive any new messages on the Message Board.

Pembroke CAO David Unrau is looking for information on fundraising foundations to support municipal capital projects.

"As it becomes more difficult to meet our level of service and as facilities age (recreation facilities in particular), municipalities are forced to find alternative funding streams or close facilities.  As Chair of our local hospital board it is clear that  government funding is inadequate and the hospital leans heavily on the Hospital Foundation for fundraising and support capital projects. Are there any good examples of municipalities partnering or creating a Fundraising Foundation to support municipal capital projects?  Any documentation or lessons learned to share?"

Please respond to David directly or on the Message Board

Skipperisms

As darkness set in early again and I was home alone I found a certain ennui start to set in. My bone was unsatisfying and my squeaky toy left me empty. I was lonely. Loneliness seems to transcend time, culture, and circumstance. It got me to thinking.

I recalled that Jean-Paul Sartre once remarked, "If you're lonely when you're alone, you're in bad company." Sartre's words are supposed to beckon us to confront the discomfort of solitude and recognize it as an opportunity for self-discovery rather than a desolate landscape. But I wasn't feeling it.

I went back further to Aristotle on the nature of companionship: "Whosoever is delighted in solitude is either a wild beast or a god." Aristotle's words remind us that while solitude can be a breeding ground for introspection, a balance must be struck to avoid the pitfalls of isolation. I think we need to recognize the value of both solitude and companionship to cultivate a fulfilling life.

So I called up my friend Bailey and asked her to come over. We had a blast--and I forgot that it was cold and dark outside.
