The OMAA's mission is to provide professional development, services, and networking opportunities that enable Members to be the best they can be in serving the public as municipal executives. The Board remains committed to this mission and has been hard at work developing new ways to actualize it in a rapidly changing environment. These initiatives include but are not limited to the following: -
Continuing to advocate for our five key issues and other ways to ensure municipal good governance.
- Revising the model CAO employment contract (a new version will be released later this fall).
- Work is underway on a new education program specific for CAOs.
-
Ensuring your voice gets heard. The CAO's dilemma session at the Fall Workshop will include an open dialogue around questions such as: What does effective leadership look like in the current environment? and How can OMAA best assist its members in dealing with these new challenges?

| I had time over the weekend to think about giving thanks. There are many valid reasons most cultures have a harvest or similar festival to give thanks.
Religious leaders and philosophers have extolled the virtue of gratitude throughout history. Gratitude is the “social glue” that fortifies relationships and serves as the backbone of a functional society. It also has many benefits for individuals including better physical and psychological health, increased happiness, and life satisfaction. While gratitude is worthwhile, gratefulness might be even better. Gratefulness is a more general feeling of being thankful for some state of affairs that we have done nothing to deserve.
Aristotle argued that we become what we habitually do. We can make the world a better place by being aware of the good things it already affords. We can change ourselves into the kind of people who seek out and celebrate things we can be thankful for if we take time to be grateful. I was sure grateful for the bits of turkey that hit the kitchen floor... |
