CAO Profile Now Available It can be difficult to know what steps to take to become a CAO. It's also challenging to know what makes someone an effective CAO.
OMAA is pleased to release the CAO Profile to help guide those on the CAO journey.
Community success in today’s complex environment requires a CAO to possess exemplary leadership capabilities. Guided by OMAA, Dr. Gordon McIntosh spent two years researching, interviewing, and workshopping the content found in the profile to ensure it met those complex needs.
This CAO Profile may be used for Leadership Alignment, Self-Assessment, or as a Coaching Aid. This profile is intended for self-assessment to be used as a reference as you progress through the different stages of your professional career. It contains five leadership capabilities with four key competencies in each.
We hope you use this CAO Profile as a workbook as you progress through the various stages of your municipal career. You can download a copy in the CAO 101 section of the Library on our website (after logging in as a member) or pick up a print copy at the upcoming Fall Workshop. Also stay tuned as we roll out a series of webinars and other supportive tools to help you make the most of the profile. |

| It is a universal truth that we all seek happiness. But what do we actually mean when we say we want to be happy?
Certain things, like a fresh meaty bone, can provide happiness but this is often a fleeting, momentary feeling. Plus it's an external condition tied to others providing the thing whereas we know happiness can only be truly derived by oneself. It's a fool that thinks I will be happy "when I get a new house" or "when Summer is nice to me" or some such thing.
Aristotle said "Happiness, whether consisting in pleasure or virtue, or both, is more often found with those who are highly cultivated in their minds and in their character". Part of cultivating our character is to learn, to grow, and to try new and scary things. Just the other day I tried out a lure course that pushed me in new ways. Don't I look like a happy dog? |
